In the four decades since Roe v. Wade, the number of abortions has dropped to an all-time low, despite the US population growing by 30%. Ending poverty will reduce this number even further; 49% of women who had abortions in 2014 had family incomes below the poverty line.
This is the 21st century, and we recognize that abortion bans are futile. Banning drugs doesn’t work, and nearly 40% of abortions (and rising) are pharmaceutical. By making better contraception available, and addressing the root causes of unwanted pregnancy, we can do better.
Under the Blueprint for a Better America, we will continue to reduce the number of abortions, and leave the Hyde amendment in place so that no federal funds are used for them.
The 400+ million guns in America claimed nearly 40,000 lives in 2017, but 60% of those deaths were suicides. By ending poverty and providing Americans with better access to mental health care, we can reduce that number significantly.
This is the 21st century, and we recognize that gun bans are futile in an age of 3D printers. Instead, we can address the root causes of mass shootings such as military glorification and wealth inequality. We can do better.
Under the Blueprint for a Better America, we will institute universal background checks, and make sure that those buying guns are able to do so legally.
